In many cases you can save time and effort (from looking for a cause at all costs) by reinstalling Windows, taking care not to lose the personal data saved in the user folders of the system. In this guide you will find how to restore or reinstall Windows without losing personal data, so as to have a "clean" installation of Windows but with the absolute certainty that documents, photos, videos and images are safe.Warning: with the steps recommended in this guide you will still lose the programs installed on your PC, plus any customizations. Get a copy of the programs you intend to install after the restore is complete.
How to restore or reinstall Windows
The lightest method you can use to restore Windows without losing personal data System Restore, which allows you to return the system to a state prior to the appearance of errors or freezes without touching the personal files contained in the user folders.
In order to use this method immediately, just search in the Start menu Restoration and click on the entry Restoration.

Among the items present click on Open System Restore.

The program that manages the configuration restore will open; click on Come on until you see the list of restore points created by the system or by you.

Select the restore point and click Come on. The system will restart and at the end your system will return to working as the days before the error occurred. Your files will not be touched by the process.
Reset your PC
Do you want to make your PC look like new, losing only the programs and customizations? Windows 10 introduced the very useful feature Reset, which allows you to restore the operating system as if it were "just installed" without losing any personal files.
To start this recovery mode look in the Start menu Reset and click on the item Reset your PC.

The system reset procedure will start; you will be asked at some point whether to keep your files, click on the option indicated (Keep my files).

The system will now restart and, after a few minutes of waiting (depends on the speed of the hard disk), you will end up with a clean installation of Windows 10.
This method is also applicable by clicking on the item Find out how to perform a clean installation of Windows in the section Other recovery options (reachable in the same menu you saw to access Reset your PC).

A window similar to the one below will open; click on To start and follow the on-screen instructions to restore Windows 10 and keep your files.

Restore from a PC that won't start or freeze
Here I will show you the steps to restore Windows 10 when it no longer starts on startup. You will need to use a recovery disc, just follow the procedure I prepared for you below:
- Get a working PC and download the tool here (Download the tool now).
- Install it and select Create an installation media for another PC.
- Choose a language, the edition you need and the architecture (64 bit or 32 bit).
- Follow all the steps to create an installation media (DVD or USB).
- Insert the support created on the non-functioning PC and turn it on by starting from the support (usually pressing F8 repeatedly should serve the purpose).
- In the initial configuration screen select the language, then select Come on.
- Among the many items present, select Reset the computer.
- In the next screen select Troubleshooting.
- Select nowReset your PC to reinstall Windows 10. All programs, updated drivers and system customizations will be removed but you can choose to keep your personal files.
- Wait for the procedure to end.
By carefully following all the steps you will reboot your PC with Windows 10 fully functional and with your personal files available, you will only have to reinstall the programs and drivers.
