The new Apple operating system will use symmetric multiprocessing and applications that require a lot of power from the processors will be able to take advantage of it, so that even those who produce accelerators sees an opportunity to expand their offer and make the old Apple machines last longer. At MacWorld Sand Francisco Sonnet has announced (the product will be available by the end of February) the brand new dual processor for Apple PowerMacintosh G4 AGP (Sawtooth) computer. This is a card called Sonnet Encore / ST Duet and composed of two single 500 G4 processors MHz each of which has 1 MB of second level cache.
The Encore / ST Duet update integrates with all current existing applications for Mac OS and fully compatible with operating systems from Mac OS 8.6 to Mac OS X without having to add any additional software.
