ITunes, 1.3 million Disney movies sold | Macitynet.it
Three months after the launch, sales of films on the iTunes store have reached the considerable result of 1.3 million.
According to the Financial Times which publishes an article on the matter, Christmas would have been a particularly happy time for the service. During the holidays, the rate of paid downloads of movies from iTunes would have doubled. The confirmation comes by scrolling the figures communicated at the beginning of November, when with about eight weeks of operation Disney made it known that it had sold 500 thousand films, at a rate of about 62 thousand a week. Despite the comparison with the music section, the figure makes it appear of little importance, considering the cost, that the service active only in the USA and the Internet band and the time needed to download a film, certainly not available to everyone.
According to information collected by the Financial Times, the best-selling films were Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest whose launch helped boost sales. Disney takes advantage of the opportunity and the result to emphasize that the launch of the online film sales service has not affected the sales of DVDs as feared by other studios and some major players in the retail sector. Cars and the second episode of the Pirates of the Caribbean were the best-selling DVD movies in history and this in a decidedly unfavorable scenario given that 2007 should be the first year in the history of DVDs to mark a drop in turnover.
