    1. Download the necessary files
    2. Copy the contents of the archive to the SD / MicroSD card
    3. Ninjhax and PastaCFW execution
    4. CIA Installation and Backup Copies
    5. Conclusions

The guide is valid for all versions of the firmware of the Nintendo 3DS/3DS XL between 4.1 is 9.2 (from now on in the article we will call it O3DS) and for all versions of the New Nintendo 3DS / 3DS XL (from now N3DS) between 9.0 is 9.2.

You cannot use this guide if you have one of the latest versions of the Nintendo firmware (at the time of writing 9.7).

To find out the version you have, open Nintendo console settings and read the firmware number in the upper screen.

firmware_version "width =" 600 "height =" 676 "srcset =" 600w, wp-content / uploads / 2015/05 / firmware_version-373x420.jpg 373w "data-lazy-sizes =" (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px "/>

<p>The change we're going to apply to the Nintendo console <strong>temporary</strong> and consists in applying one <strong>patch in memory</strong> to allow the execution of code not signed by Nintendo and therefore bypass the firmware protections; per se then <strong>does not install</strong> and / or edit any files on the original console.</p>
<p>The patch in memory <strong>PastaCFW</strong> (even if the name CFW = Custom Firmware is improper, since it is a patch in RAM memory).</p>
<p>Installation of will be possible later <strong>CIA archives</strong> (<strong>C</strong>TR <strong>THE</strong>mportable <strong>TO</strong>rchive, the equivalent of WAD on Nintendo Wii) which may consist of <strong>Homebrew</strong>, <strong>Backup copies of 3DS / N3DS games</strong>, <strong>DSiWare</strong>, etc.</p>
<p>This change does not allow backup copies of games that require firmware greater than 9.2.</p>
<h3><strong>What is needed</strong></h3>
<p>Obviously your Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS (normal or XL version)</p>
<p>and you need:</p>
<li>An original copy of the game <strong>Cubic Ninja</strong> purchasable (for example) on Amazon:</li>
<li>The archive indicated at <strong>point 1</strong> of the guide</li>
<li>A wireless connection in your home (N3DS only) or an SD / MicroSD card reader on your computer.</li>
<li>Recommended, but not essential, an SD / MicroSD memory card from at least <strong>32GB</strong></li>
<h3><strong>1 – Download necessary files</strong></h3>
<p>Download the archive containing the files necessary to modify the console:</p>

<p>The following tools are present in the archive:</p>
<li>PastaCFW 1.1.1</li>
<li>Ninjhax 1.1b</li>
<li>FBI – Cia Installer</li>
<h3><strong>2 – Copy of the contents of the archive to the SD / MicroSD card</strong></h3>
<p>If you own <strong>O3DS</strong>, remove the <strong>SD card</strong> and insert it into the computer reader. For owners of <strong>N3DS</strong> there are two different possibilities:</p>
<p>– Remove the back cover and remove the card <strong>MicroSD</strong> and then insert it into the computer. It is a procedure provided by Nintendo that <strong>does not invalidate</strong> absolutely no guarantee.</p>

<p><img class=

Place Cubic Ninja (the game needed to start PastaCFW) e start it.

cubic ninja boot

Select Create from the game menu.

crea-cubic-ninja "width =" 600 "height =" 450 "srcset =" 600w, https: // 80w, -cubic-ninja-265x198.jpg 265w, 560w "data-lazy-sizes =" (max -width: 600px) 100vw, 600px "/>

<p>Select <strong>QR Code</strong></p>
<p><img class=

SelectScan QR code

At this point, here is the critical part; open thereimagebelow with the computer corresponding to your console is firmware (the following links are not valid for the Japanese version of the Nintendo console but only for European and American versions):

– 3DS / 3DS XL (O3DS)

– New 3DS / 3DS XL (N3DS)

The aim is to make this known QR code in the form of an image to the game Cubic Ninja.

Point the console as if you were to take a photograph on the computer screen where you loaded the image QR code with the links above.

The following image is an example for New Nintendo 3DS. Choose the one corresponding to your firmware or the procedure will not be completed successfully.

qr new nintendo 3ds

If everything went well and you manage to frame the QR Code correctly, it will start after a few moments of loading:

When the upload is complete, you will see thereHomebrewLauncher.

homebrew launcher

From this program you can start other programs.

To use custom firmware and allow execution of unsigned code, you must first start the PastaCFWby selecting it from the list.

After the writing on the upper screen, you will return to the console menu with the patch that will allow linstallation and making of backup copies!

4 – CIA Installation and Backup Copies

With the state of affairs al step 3, you will not be able to do anything; to install a CIA archive or a game (always in CIA format) you will have to use the second program contained in the archive and therefore in your SD / MicroSD card, that is FBI – Cia Installer.

This kind of CIA installer, law files with extension.Central Intelligence Agency content on the SD / MicroSD card and allows thereinstallation on system memory of the Nintendo console.

You will have to copy other programs / games or anything else in CIA format to your SD / MicroSD.

We will not provide any links to CIA files in the article or comments or otherwise.

WARNING!Being a installations in system memory, always pay attention to the type of CIA archive in your possession; if in an invalid format, it may compromise the operation of the Nintendo console.

A capacity card is recommended 32GB because you will need space for it.cia archive and space for future installation! After installation you can delete the .cia archive and free up space.

We can now continue with lexecution of the FBI program. Open again Cubic Ninja, always enter the Create menu and then QR Code. This time, theHomebrew Launcher; the procedure choose the QR only the first time.

Now choose the program FBI.

The interface of this very spartan and simple program.

FBI-example "width =" 600 "height =" 673 "srcset =" 600w, https: // www. 374w "data-lazy-sizes =" (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px "/>

<p>Choose the CIA file to be installed on the Nintendo 3DS / N3DS memory using the arrows on the pad (for example a backup copy) and press the <strong>bottoneA</strong>. Confirm by pressing the <strong>button A</strong> Once again.</p>
<p>Exit the program (key <strong>start</strong>) and start again <strong>PastaCFW</strong>; you will have the content available next to the other elements in the <strong>console menu</strong>.</p>

<h3><strong>5 – Conclusions</strong></h3>
<p>Not being a modification <strong>permanent</strong>, whenever you turn off your Nintendo console, you will first need to run <strong>PastaCFW</strong> for <strong>bypass security checks</strong>. You can start anything later <strong>installed</strong> on your console (installation takes place via the <strong>CIA Installer</strong> of the <strong>step 4</strong>).</p>

<p>It is very likely that a procedure will be available in the future <strong>avoid going through Cubic Ninja</strong> to start Homebrew Launcher but at least <strong>lump sum</strong> will have to be used. At the time of writing,<strong> required whenever the Nintendo console is restarted or turned off</strong>.</p>

<p>Remember not to update your console via the internet or you will lose the ability to boot <strong>Homebrew Launcher</strong> / <strong>PastaCFW</strong>.</p>
