Apple TV + wants more movies and live sports: talks with MGM and Pac-12

Apple want more live movies and sporting events on its TV Plus streaming service, according to sources in the Wall Street Journal. The company executives have already held the first negotiations with MGM, which is one of the major majors and holds one of the largest film and TV series bookstores in the world, and the Pac-12, an association that manages many athletes and US college sportsmen.

For now the talks are still in the preliminary stages, and nothing has been decided yet. In fact, several months have already passed since they were held: it was the February of 2019. It is interesting to note that at that time MGM was looking for partners for the distribution of Epix, a cable channel founded several years earlier. We do not know for sure if there is a causal relationship between the two facts, however.

Meanwhile, almost two months after his debut, TV + continues to grow, albeit slowly. After the launch, a series, Truth Be Told, and a film, Servant by M. Night Shyamalan, arrived; in the coming weeks also Little America and Mythic Quest will arrive. All four initial series have already been renewed for a second season, and one of these, The Morning Show, also had a good success at the Golden Globe, with 3 nominations – best actress for both protagonists (Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon ) and best dramatic series. However, it seems that the debut was less than expected, and that many executives have paid (or will pay) for the consequences.
