Soon StarOffice for Mac
StarOffice is an integrated Sun package, very efficient according to who uses it, compatible with Microsoft Office files and with the considerable advantage of having a cost close to zero; in the last few months a lot of news has arrived about the port on mac, but until now the certain data were relatively few. Today Macuarium reports an interview with the person in charge of porting to the mac of the package, with many interesting news: Sun is working closely with Apple to release a package compliant with the standards of the Cupertino company and, of course, the product will be released for MacOS X, developed in the Cocoa environment, becoming one of the first packages created in the new development environment of Apple. The release date should be fixed in the spring of 2001 and the status of the porting would seem to confirm this date as reliable. By then, will we have a final version of MacOS X? Surely we will have one more choice in deciding which suite for office automation to use.
