Apple has patent a technology for the operation of a fingerprint sensor integrated under the display of digital devices. The documentation was published yesterday by the USPTO after the Cupertino company had filed the request last March. This would accredit the rumors that, starting with the next generation, iPhones – all or only the top model, is still early to know – could be unlocked with this "new" system.
The optical sensor could be applied not only in the smartphone environment, but also on other devices, including Apple Watch and iPad. After all, that there was an intention in the air to find an alternative to facial recognition (perhaps without necessarily replacing it in its entirety) it was understood: Ming-Chi Kuo has on several occasions envisaged a Touch ID integrated in the display (in August it spoke of an ultrasonic sensor), modifying its previous thought that this solution was not yet sufficiently mature.
