The new operating system for the Apple smartwatch brings more fluidity and speed, as well as new features
After a small delay caused by a bug, watchOS 2 finally available: the second version of the operating system for Apple Watch is not a substantial update, but there are some interesting news that should make the experience of use better.
To install the new operating system it is necessary to have already updated the iPhone to iOS 9 (here's how to do it) and then open the Apple Watch app icon on the smartphone, where the red badge will have appeared; from there follow the path: General> Software update.
Let's now explore the most significant news.
Native appsApple has worked to make apps more fluid by setting their execution natively on the Watch. Audio, video and animations they will be faster. Even sports-fitness-medical types should be more reactive, taking advantage of the heart rate monitor and hardware accelerometer.
SiriAs for iOS 9, the enhanced virtual assistant is more proactive. His bread will be requested on training programs (Start a running session in the 8-kilometer park) and information on public transport, but it will also be easier to answer an email or make a phone call.
DialsThere are three new dials: Photos, Albums and Timelapse. Raising the wrist (after pressing the dial) will appear images and albums saved on the Watch. Timelapse shows timelapse videos of famous places like Hong Kong, London and New York.
WifiImproves mobility, with the ability to connect to any Wi-Fi network stored on the iPhone. Wireless calls are another novelty.
ComplicationsYou can add them to your favorite apps by entering the appropriate Apple Watch tab (on the iPhone). The information you want updated in real time will be displayed: sports results, news headlines, times in which to take your medicines …
Time TravelA system (via Digital Crown) to scroll through events back and forth in time, from the sports news of the day before to the train schedule for tomorrow's appointment.
WorkoutsYou can choose training plans from third-party apps like Runtastic, which will be stored in the Training ring and appear in the Activities app on your iPhone.
SharingThe results of the Activity rings (such as Training sessions) can be shared with relatives and friends via Messages, Mail, chats and social networks to which you are subscribed.
Email and communicationsMore convenient to respond to emails, directly from the Apple Watch, but also to make and receive FaceTime calls. You can add new friends in groups, do multi-color designs with your finger and send them, and use new animated emoji.
NightNight mode allows you to use the device even while charging on the bedside table: in operation the alarm, to be managed through the Digital Crown (to delay it) and the side button (to turn it off).
Activation lockIntervenes when you have lost your Apple Watch and prevents others from activating the watch or deleting the data.
MapHere we follow the iOS update, which shows the stations and connections of public transport and the directions to get to their destination, even on foot. Unfortunately not yet available in Italy.
MusicHere is the Beats One button to listen to the radio and the Quick Play button to quickly play your favorite songs.
FitnessNew advanced features, such as the average pace in sports apps (Strava, Runtastic). The workout calibration is now saved to iCloud. Algorithms for rowing and outdoor bike training have been improved.
