Did you accidentally delete an important message? It often happens when you try to clean or when you reset the device. You may not know it, but you can recover unintentionally deleted iPhone messages, especially if they are work chats. Read on to find out how.
Message deleted by mistake? Don't worry, here's how to recover messages on the iPhone
A few days ago I explained how to recover a contact accidentally deleted on the iPhone. After completing the guide, however, I actually realized that messages (SMS or iMessage) can also be important, as they can contain sensitive information, or simple and dear memories. I could not, therefore, not run for cover and write this new guide, showing you how to recover messages on iPhone deleted by mistake.
You can recover deleted messages on your iPhone using one of the following methods.
Recover deleted messages through third-party apps
The least invasive method to retrieve messages on the iPhone is to use specific third-party applications. There are several on the App Store that can do this type of procedure. The best currently in circulation are the following: PhoneRescue from iMobie, Enigma of recovery and Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery.
The recovery of deleted messages is possible because these remain on the device for a short period of time after they have been deleted, until the data is then overwritten by newer ones. It is important, therefore, to use these apps as soon as possible. The more time passes, the more difficult it will be to recover the deleted message.
Recover deleted messages via iCloud backup
If the deleted message dates back a long time, it is likely that the apps will not be able to restore it. In these cases, the only possible solution is to recover the deleted messages by restoring the iCloud backup.
To do this, open the Settings app on your iPhone, click on your name at the top and then iCloud> Manage Space> Backup and check if in the list there is a backup of your iPhone with a date on which the deleted message was still present on the phone (to view the dates, tap on the single backup in the list). If there is an iCloud backup of your iPhone with a date prior to deleting the message, then it means that you can retrieve the message you want by restoring the iPhone. Remember, however, that in this way you will lose all the data added after the backup date. It is important, therefore, to save all the photos, videos and any other documents that you do not want to lose! I advise you to make a new backup before starting the process, so that you can then reinstall the most recent backup once the messages have been recovered. A bit uncomfortable, but at least you don't risk losing new data.
To restore the iPhone to factory settings, go to General> Reset> Clear content and settings.
Recover deleted messages via iTunes backup
To be able to retrieve messages on the iPhone, in addition to the three previous ways, there is also another system. To proceed, in addition to your iPhone, you must have a Windows PC or a Mac and of course adequate software. One of these Dr.Fone, compatible with the two main operating systems. To discover this procedure I suggest you read our guide on how recover iPhone messages and contacts with Dr.Fone. This paid software, but with the free version you can check if the software can recover the files you lost.
Another method to retrieve messages on iPhone without backup is to use the iPhone Data Recovery software, a powerful tool (available for PC and Mac) that allows you to access the device's internal memory and retrieve iPhone data that we thought we had lost forever. Even this paid software, but it also has a free demo version. For more information you can read our article: iPhone Data Recovery: Recover iPhone data without Backup.
