63% of companies prefer private cloud storage solutions over public products, such as Dropbox: this is the interesting result of the new survey commissioned by CTERA Networks. The data emerged from the analysis are published in CTERA's Enterprise Cloud Storage Report 2014, a survey conducted at the beginning of 2014 on 200 IT professionals by the independent research company Research Now. The report examines the state of use of cloud storage in companies and the measures taken by IT departments to improve the security of cloud storage systems within their respective environments.

Among the main data emerging from the research:

Companies are rapidly moving towards modern cloud storage solutions, which they can control. Of the companies that have already implemented or are evaluating FSS (File Sync & Share) products, 63% indicated that they prefer a private cloud storage solution backed by a hosted infrastructure ("virtual private") or within their own datacenter, with large companies from over 10,000 employees who prefer a completely private cloud.

Companies are moving quickly to gain the collaborative and mobility advantages of cloud storage while respecting their internal privacy and control policies. 25% of companies have already implemented File Sync & Share tools on private cloud, and 20% has implemented cloud storage gateways. 45% of companies are evaluating File Sync & Share tools on private cloud, while 38% are evaluating cloud storage gateways

SaaS-based cloud storage is causing organizational problems. 31% of respondents recorded company data stolen in 2013 due to file sharing by employees, through FSS services often not approved. Moreover, 71% worried or very worried about possible data breaches.

To avoid data stealing, 55% of companies with over 30,000 employees prohibit the use of file sharing solutions based on SaaS.

"Companies are looking for solutions to take advantage of cloud storage without having to lose control of their data. The market is full of SaaS proposals, but the solutions able to scale on hybrid and private clouds are very few, "said Donato Antonangeli, CTERA Regional Director Italy. "This independent research confirms Antonangeli continued – what we hear from our customers: there is a clear preference for a platform that can be managed and used with the preferred infrastructure, with enterprise-level security and user experience addictive.
