How to optimize PUBG Mobile for jagged phones

The unsightly Apple solution for housing the front-facing camera and sensors on its iPhone X almost without frame has taken the Android smartphone ecosystem by storm and although some manufacturers have come up with innovative solutions to tackle the same problem, the notch is now a point stopped on most Android smartphones. Having a notch on a smartphone offers one of the simplest solutions for housing the front camera and sensors, but has a fair amount of problems. The most problematic problem that the notch interferes with some elements of the user interface in apps and full-screen games and those of you who play PUBG Mobile on the smartphone with the notch will know exactly what I'm talking about. In case you are looking for a solution to your problems, here's how to optimize PUBG Mobile for phones with notches:

Optimize PUBG Mobile for jagged phones

The notches are available in various shapes and sizes, making it rather difficult for PUBG Mobile developers to customize the game's user interface based on all the different notch styles. To address this problem, PUBG Mobile has recently received a special switch to optimize the game for slotted displays, making it easier for users with a smartphone with notches to optimize the game's user interface based on the smartphone's design. Here's how you can use the setting to optimize PUBG Mobile for the smartphone notch:

  • To optimize PUBG Mobile for the display with notches, you have to open the settings menu touching the gear in the lower right corner of the game lobby.

  • Now tap the "Graphics" tab in the settings menu and scroll down to find the new "Non-standard screens" option. Note that the new setting not yet available on all smartphones . For example, if selected on OnePlus 6, the game does not display the option and automatically moves the entire game to the right, leaving an unsightly black bar in its wake. However, on some other phones, including OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, the feature was visible, so it should come soon to your phone.

  • The option set to "Normal" by default and, depending on the device you are using, possible select the "Rounded corners" option or the "Notched" option . After selecting the appropriate setting, Click on the yellow 'OK' button in the corner bottom right.

  • The game will now show you a pop-up saying "New settings have been applied. Reduce the frame rate if it fluctuates". Tap "OK" and restart the game for the settings to take effect.

  • When you restart the game, you will notice that UI elements have been moved slightly inward, which will ensure that the notch does not interfere with the game buttons (see the attached screenshot for comparison). The setting moves the user interface elements both to the left and the right side of the game.

Left: normal UI, right: UI optimized for Notch

Well, that's all! You have successfully optimized PUBG Mobile for your display with notches. Now you can enjoy the game without worrying that the notch intrudes. The "Rounded Corners" setting has a similar effect and slightly shifts the user interface elements inward to prevent the rounded corners of the screen from affecting the user interface elements.
