Apple will release a new one 12.9 "iPad Pro and a refresh of the newly arrived (and just reviewed) MacBook Pro 16 in about a year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. Among the many new features we can expect, the well-known Chinese analyst mentions display technology, which will be for both Mini LEDs. It is not the first time that the source talks about this new technology in relation to Apple, but first there was doubt about the time window – end of 2020 or beginning of 2021. Apparently something has moved, because the most distant option in the time has disappeared from the equation.
Both MacBooks and iPads still use LCD display technology; for a couple of generations, however, the most prestigious iPhones – the XS and XS Max of last year, the 11 Pro and the 11 Pro Max this year – have moved toOLED, which involves some important advantages, such as absolute blacks. The Mini LEDs, however, are considered the next evolutionary step in the world of displays: it offers richer colors, dynamic range and higher contrast. Mini LED displays should be even thinner than OLEDs, and should not suffer from burn-in problems. The adoption by Apple should represent a big step forward for this technology, whose diffusion is still practically non-existent.
Ming-Chi Kuo says that within the next two or three years Apple will release between 4 and 6 products with Mini LED displays, but for now there are no details on which.
