Live 8: concerts, streaming and (almost) all the music on iTunes

Saturday 2 July the world will be shaken by the vibrations produced by guitars, percussions and voices, the weapons of the musical groups that have joined Live 8.

Twenty years after Live Aid Live 8 concerts will be held in nine cities (London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Philadelphia, Barrie, Tokyo, Johannesburg and Moscow) plus a final appendix on July 6 in Edinburgh, where it will be held the G8 summit.

The organizers are asking all interested parties to "sign" a single proposal: to reduce the debt of third world countries. The organizer of Live 8 Bob Geldof will present a feasible project to double aid, reduce debts at the G8 in Edinburgh. to make the laws of international trade fair.

But how will Live 8 be experienced on the Internet and in online multimedia? For the first time the concerts of the event will be broadcast in streaming and replication. The reference portal is that of AOL of the Time Warner group, a publishing group that just a few days ago having taken note of a change taking place on the network, deciding that all online videos will no longer be paid on group sites, they are already following many other big players on the network.

With the availability of Google Video, AOL has decided to activate "AOL Video Hub" within a few weeks, similar to Google Video, in fact, AOL will release AOL Video Player, able to read a variety of video formats like Google Video Viewer . We bet that Yahoo! and MSN won't be watching for long.

Live 8 concerts will be visible in Real format (with a delay of less than a minute compared to live) on AOL Music, one by one in Paris, London, Berlin, Toronto, Philadelphia or Rome but also available all together live in a ?global feed ?, the use of Firefox is recommended because Safari, Opera and iCab are not supported.

AOL broadcasts in the United States on the web are massively sponsored by Windows XP (with the slogan "collect, rip, mix, groove", does it remind you of anything?), Something that will allow Bill Gates to appear on the London stage, the only one if not uncommon among non-singers, for a statement of circumstance. On the other hand, it is interesting to note that the AOL UK page features iTunes + iPod advertising (as can be seen on the side).

From a musical point of view the very rich online offer stands out, thanks to the global showcase offered by the concerts.

The largest digital music store in the world, Apple's iTunes Music Store, reacted promptly on all the world jukeboxes where Apple activated the sale of songs.

While waiting for the i2010 initiative, of which we told you not many hours ago, bases the different European national royalties on one for the countries of the Union, the online offer of Live 8 music is a useful starting point for reflection and noting how Apple is forced to offer the songs of the July 2 concert participants in various countries as a leopard spot. The list of licenses of music publishers that are present with some artists in certain countries and lacking in others is very complicated.

Fortunately, however, Apple has created sections of its national stores that can be accessed and have links available to singers available for that market.

For example, to buy the songs of singers who have music available to the Italian public on iTunes, just start from this link in the iTunes Music Store. A list of concert venues and singers data for those present will appear, a link with the section of the store that concerns them will appear on each one.

For those interested, we present below a list of singers, as they are illustrated by the iTunes Music Store, for the various countries, with the songs that can be purchased and those that cannot be purchased, for each country.

iTunes Music Store ITALY

The official list of singers present at the Circus Maximus in Rome is as follows: Antonello Venditti, Article 31, Biagio Antonacci, Claudio Baglioni, Duran Duran, Elisa, Faith Hill, Francesco De Gregori, Several Gemini, Irene Grandi, JovanoTTi, Laura Pausini, Le Vibrations, Ligabue, Max Pezzali, Negramaro, Negrita, Nek, Noa, Piero Pel, Pino Daniele, Povia, Renato Zero, Tim McGraw, Tiromancino and Velvet.

Apple on the Italian iTunes manages to sell the music of these listed and others not listed in full, except Elisa (loyal to Messaggerie Digitali by contract), Negramano and Tim McGraw. On the other hand, Vasco Rossi and Zucchero are listed which are not currently given for certain at the Roman concert.

As for the foreign artists present in the other Live 8 concerts, from the Italian iTunes it is not possible to buy the music of some big names such as: Elton John (if not only 6 songs taken from compilations), Madonna, Paul McCartney, Andrea Bocelli ( faithful to Digital Messaggerie by contract), Craig David, Dave Matthews Band and Linkin Park (if not just 6 songs taken from compilations). It should be noted that Madonna and Paul McCartney have no presence even in all the other iTunes Music Stores, while Elton John has it, a small part in Great Britain and in a rather large way in the USA.

iTunes Music Store USA

The official list of singers present at the Philadelphia Museum of Art is the following: Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Def Leppard, Destiny's Child, Jay-Z, Josh Groban, Kaiser Chiefs, Keith Urban, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, P Diddy, Rob Thomas, Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Wonder and Toby Keith as well as presenter / singer Will Smith. As already stated, there are few such things as Madonna and Paul McCartney from the US store.

Of "our" artists in the USA (among those announced for Live 8 by Apple) there is only the availability of Andrea Bocelli (too required to be relegated to the only system, incompatible with the Mac platform, of the Digital Messaggerie), Irene Grandi, JovanoTTi, Laura Pausini, Max Pezzali, Nek and Zucchero.

Although richer than elsewhere, in the iTunes iTunes you can buy songs by various African artists while in the other iTunes you can only get two or three names from those listed.

iTunes Music Store GREAT BRITAIN

The official list of singers present at Hyde Park in London is as follows: African Children's Choir, Annie Lennox, Bob Geldof, Coldplay, Dido, Elton John, Joss Stone, Keane, The Killers, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Ms. Dynamite, Paul McCartney , Pink Floyd, Razorlight, REM, Robbie Williams, Scissor Sisters, Snoop Dogg, Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Sting, Travis, U2, UB40 and Velvet Revolver.

The songs of these are all for sale in the British store of Apple except African Children's Choir and then the aforementioned Madonna and Paul McCartney who are absent as Craig David, Dave Matthews Band, P Diddy and Tim McGraw on stage in other cities of Live 8 .

Missing four Italians of Live 8 in the lists of iTunes UK: Antonello Venditti, Biagio Antonacci, Francesco Renga and Negramano.

iTunes Music Store FRANCE

At the Palais de Versailles in Paris are credited to participate: Andrea Bocelli together with the Philharmonie of the Nationen, Amel Bent, Axelle Red, Calogero, Cerrone / Nile Rogers, Craig David, The Cure, David Hallyday, Diam's, Dido, Disiz La Peste, Faudel , Florent Pagny, Kool Shen, Kyo, Louis Bertignac, Matt Copora, Muse, Placebo, Raphael, Shakira, Sheryl Crow, Tina Arena, Yannick Noah and Youssou N'Dour.

Of these present in the French capital, iTunes across the Alps lists almost all of them, except for Craig David, David Hallyday (replaced by an almost homonymous Johnny Hallyday), Kool Shen and Matt Copora. Absent also Razorlight, Tim McGraw, Dave Matthews Band and Linkin Park that instead will play in other concerts of Live 8.

Among the Italian "cousins" present at Live 8 elsewhere, they are all sold on iTunes France except Biagio Antonacci, Francesco Renga and Negramano.

iTunes Music Store GERMANY

Around the Victory Column (Siegessule) of Berlin the local Live 8 will see the participation of: A-Ha, Audioslave, Bap, Brian Wilson, Chris de Burgh, Crosby Stills & Nash, Die Toten Hosen, Faithless, Green Day, Herbert Grenemeyer, Joana Zimmer, Juan Diego Florez, Juli, Katherine Jenkins, Reamonn, Renee Olstead, Roxy Music, Sasha, Silbermond, Sehne Mannheims and Wir Sind Helden. All available on iTunes Music Store Germany except Bap, as well as among the Italians Francesco Renga and Negramano, in this country evidently Italian music has a long tradition, also due to the many emigrants.

Craig David, Dave Matthews Band and Linkin Park are among the foreign singers in Apple's German store.

iTunes Music Store CANADA

In Canada, at Park Place in Barrie, Dan Aykroyd will present the following artists: African Guitar Summit, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn, Bryan Adams, The Bachman Cummings Band, Deep Purple, DMC, DobaCaracol feat. Kna'an, Gordon Lightfoot, Great Big Sea, Jann Arden, Jet, Les Trois Accords, Mtley Cre, Our Lady Peace, Sam Roberts, Simple Plan, Tegan & Sara, The Tragically Hip and Tom Cochrane.

The songs of The Bachman Cummings Band and DMC that play in Canada cannot be purchased on the iTunes Music Store, as well as Ms. Dynamite, Stereophonics, Travis, Cerrone / Nile Rogers, Florent Pagny and Yannick Noah not in the list. of Live 8.

The only Italians sold by Apple in Canada, among those of Live 8, are: Irene Grandi, Laura Pausini, Max Pezzali, Nek and Zucchero.

For the record's honor, Live 8 will also be held in Red Square in Moscow, in Newtown / Johannesburg in South Africa and in Tokyo where, thanks to the time zone, the Japanese will inaugurate this global event.

It is estimated that Live 8 can be seen, only through the television channels that will follow it live (RaiTre and Sky channel 109 in Italy starting at 14.00), from over two billion viewers, to whom it will be necessary to add the radio audience , that Internet and of course the lucky ones present in the squares of the host cities.

We do not know if Live 8 will succeed in noble intentions but has already managed to change some multimedia availability on the web for the better.
