Xiaomi has released a new version of its customized operating system for Xiaomi devices, MIUI 9. Currently this update is available in the Global beta branch, which always shows more frequent updates than the Global stable (which is updated more slowly). This new version brings many new features in terms of graphics, performance and (on some devices) also leads to an update of the Android version installed as a base (Nougat 7.0). How to download and install MIUI 9 for Xiaomi
Many Xiaomi devices with Global Beta have been updated to the new version of MIUI via OTA updates. If you have not yet received any updates on your Android device you can force the search for OTA updates from the menu Settings -> About phone -> System updates (or Update).
Once the update menu is opened, the device will automatically search for each update and will most likely update to MIUI 9.
You can download and install MIUI 9 for Xiaomi by forcing the update even using the device's Recovery mode. In this case, just download the "Recovery" package in ZIP format for your specific device and place it in the device's internal memory.

Inside the forum you will find all the files for the supported devices; you must download the ZIP file intended for use by Recovery under the name of the Xiaomi device you use
Once you have downloaded the ZIP file rename it for convenienceupdate.zip and place it in the internal memory of the Xiaomi device. To start in recovery mode use the following steps:
- Turn the phone off
- Press the volume up key and simultaneously press the power key
- Hold down both keys until the Mi logo appears on the screen, then release the keys immediately
- The phone will start in recovery
- Use the volume keys up and down to go respectively up and down and the power key to confirm
Now you can select the item Install update.zip to start updating to MIUI 9.
If you have a Global stable on your Xiaomi you will not receive this update; the only way to try out MIU 9 by switching to the Global beta development branch flashing the right ROM from Fastboot.

Inside the forum you will find all the files for the supported devices; you must download the compressed file intended for use via Fastboot present under the name of the Xiaomi device you use.
Once you have downloaded the compressed file, you can unpack it into a folder on your PC (I suggest you use 7-Zip to do this). On your computer you will need Mi Flash to flash the new ROM from Fastboot; you can download this program from the following link.

If you still don't have ADB and Fastboot saved on your PC, just follow the guide below to install them quickly on your PC.
Once you have prepared your PC for flashing, you can restart your phone in Fastboot mode. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Turn the phone off
- From the phone off press the volume down key and at the same time press the power key
- Hold down both keys until the Mi logo appears on the screen, then release the keys
- The phone will start in Fastboot
Now connect your phone to the PC via USB cable and use the Mi Flash tool to load the new MIUI 9 on your smartphone.
Once opened, Flash me upBrowse -> This PC -> Folder with the extracted files, click on Images and then OK. Now in the drop-down menu next to the entry Browse and then on the Advanced entry. Click again on the item Browsenext to FastBoot Script and go to select the file flash_all.bat in the folder where you unpacked the entire compressed file.
Back on the MiFlash screen click onFlash andwait for the procedure to finish, the device should automatically restart with the new MIUI 9 ROM. As you can see it was not complicated to download and install MIUI 9 for Xiaomi if you followed this guide faithfully.
