Finally Microsoft integrates LinkedIn into Outlook, after paying 26 billion. Outlook users will see the details of the Linkedin profiles in the email
The $ 26.2 billion acquisition by Microsoft of LinkedIn, the professional networking site, is beginning to bear fruit, at least in terms of sensible product additions. The company announced that LinkedIn's integration with Outlook.com is about to be launched, allowing users of the email service to view contact details, profile pictures, job history and more directly in the inbox.
Linkedin integrated into Outlook
The addition of LinkedIn to Outlook had already been described in September during Microsoft Ignite and on that occasion Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella anticipated some details on how Office 365 commercial subscribers with LinkedIn profiles could view LinkedIn information in applications and Microsoft services.
Details of Linkendin profiles in the Outlook e-mail and appointment
In one example, an Outlook user searched for the details of the person they were meeting with, using the LinkedIn profile information attached to their contact card within the Outlook calendar in Office 365. Also integrations between LinkedIn and others Microsoft products and services, including Dynamics 365 for sales and Microsoft CRM, have been announced to Ignite.
Linkedin and emails, the second time
This is not the first time that LinkedIn data finds their way into email. Before being purchased by Microsoft, LinkedIn in turn acquired a small company called Rapportive, which creates a small add-in for the Gmail web mail service aimed at integrating some data from the social media in the web app for emails, focusing on mainly on LinkedIn and less on connections to other services such as Facebook and Twitter.
With the new integration with Outlook, users can click on the name of an email contact in their mailbox and then view a rich contact card that includes a link to the LinkedIn profile.
the Pop-up with the integrated profile in Outlook
With one click you can view a mini version of the profile in this Office Profile pop-up tab that includes news such as reciprocal connections or shared work experiences, such as, for example, whether you have previously worked for the same company. You can also directly request the connection on LinkedIn.
Services similar to Linkedin and Outlook
The assumption that detailed profile information should be part of the experience of using non-unique electronic mail to Microsoft Outlook, since various startups, including Charlie, the tool for preparing appointments, or even the new Superhuman project of the founder of Rapportive, Rahul Vohra, offered similar reports related to email contacts.
When the Linkedin Outlook integration is available
Microsoft said last month that integrations would be implemented on Outlook.com and on SharePoint and OneDrive for Business. Also, in the coming months, the feature will also be available in Outlook for Windows, Outlook for iOS and other Office products.
The integration with Outlook.com started now should reach all customers by the end of November.
