200 musicians will perform at the SXSW – South By Southwest Music Festival 2005 which opens today in March, Austin, Texas. Apple took the opportunity to churn out something that will delight collectors.
They are special prepaid cards that offer music from the iTunes Music Store, special for various reasons: they bear the artistic creations of the chosen artists printed on them, once they are credited on the Apple jukebox they lead directly to the indicated song / album / playlist, they are in edition limited, will be distributed free in the various situations of the Texan event (entrances from a minimum of $ 545 for SXSW Music 2005).
Over two hundred bands have commissioned prepaid cards to Apple and this is a solution that is also proposed as a substitute for much more expensive promotional CDs distributed on these occasions. Gorillaz launched the world premiere of their new song "Dirty Harry" right in Austin with this method.
These iTunes Custom Cards have been designed by Apple in close collaboration with artists and publishers to adequately promote the new music that will be heard in Austin. A SXSW streaming solution transmits various QuickTime songs online.
Apple at the SXSW involved with the "Jukebox Jury" initiative, this afternoon will be selected as a participating artist to take advantage of a special appearance on the iTunes Music Store, starting Tuesday, March 22nd, the candidates have not yet been chosen, the jury instead composed of many names, including Robert Plant and Erykah Badu.
The "classic" prepaid cards continue to be unfortunately the prerogative of the US App Store and various retailers in North America.
