Mac mini, iPod and VW Golf GTI: a classy marriage
In recent days we have often talked about the use of Mac mini in cars with hardware and software projects, docks … but so far none of these had managed to reach the integration achieved by Mac Turner on the VW Golf GTI. Satin metal, ignition button such as what you find on Macmini: since the Apple computer cannot be left out of the cockpit, the installer has decided to show the materials and the baselines directly on the dashboard by coating those parts that integrate the touch screen, the dock for iPod, the track pad, the fash card reader and the USB and firewire. The hardware on board is also impressive, here is the list:
– Mac mini 1.42GHz with 512mb RAM, Superdrive, Bluetooth and Airport Extreme – Xenarc 700tsv 7 touchscreen monitor? with USB with VGA and dual video entry composite – Cirque EasyCat USB trackpad – Griffin PowerMate USB knob – Lacie 8-in-1 USB Flashcard reader – Belkin powered 7-port USB hub – Belkin powered USB 4-port hub – Belkin Firewire mini 6 port hub – Alpine PXA-H701 Multimedia processor with RUX-C701 controller – MonsterCable power inverter MCPI300 300watt – USB, Ethernet and Firewire ports – Dock for ipod 40gig – Griffin RadioShark USB FM / AM tuner
In this page you see only some of the images of the installation, we refer you to the complete gallery that you find here. In the next few days Matt will explain in his Blog how he installed everything and specify the technical details of the apparatus that was built, among the most interesting for those who want to organize with such a system: moving the power button on the center console of the golf, manufacturing the special pieces in satin aluminum and reshaping the drawer that houses the Mac mini in the dashboard.
