PS4 streaming on Apple TV

Do you own a PS4 and an Apple TV in two separate rooms? Then surely you might be interested in this guide. Below you'll find a little trick that I designed to stream PS4 on Apple TV. Attention for, it is necessary to have a Mac that supports the AirPlay function. If you have Windows, there are programs that allow you to take advantage of the Apple AirPlay function (type Air My Pc), but not having a Windows computer I could not test its operation. You can always try and let us know in the comments if it works.

This is a great way to play PlayStation 4 games on another device, like Apple TV in this case. I propose this solution, because they are in possession of both devices and I was able to verify it personally. In fact, streaming is used to play games on the Apple TV. Let's see how to implement this solution.

Play with PS4 on Apple TV: how to play the PlayStation 4 on the Apple TV

As I said, having the PlayStation 4 in my room, I sometimes wanted to play PS4 games in a different room in the one where the console is located, like the living room in the house, where there is a bigger television. In these cases moving the console from one room to another was certainly an uncomfortable and annoying choice and since I am the lazy king I immediately thought of an alternative solution. It was at this time that a light bulb lit up for me: take advantage of the Apple TV I have in the other room. Yes, but how?

Looking around I couldn't find any hacking programs or solutions that would allow streaming games with PS4 games on the Apple TV, but I didn't resign myself, because when someone has a need, they mobilize to find a solution.

How to play with the PS4 on the computer

For the uninitiated, Sony has released a program that allows playback of PS4 titles on Windows and Mac computers. It's called "Remote PS4 playback? And can be downloaded directly from the PlayStation website. So I thought of using this software to stream the PlayStation 4 to Apple TV. This is not officially planned, but I found the way how to make it work on Apple TV. Here is the procedure to follow.

After downloading and installing the program on your computer, which can be a Mac or Windows PC, you need to proceed with the configuration of "Remote PS4 playback". To do this, you will need to perform the following steps on your PS4 device.

  • Enable Remote Play. To select(Settings)> (Remote Play Connection Settings), then check the box (Enable Remote Play).
  • Activate the system as the main PS4 system. To select(Settings)> (Account Management)> (Activate as main PS4)> (Activate).
  • To start Remote Play while the PS4 system is in sleep mode, select(Settings)> (Energy Saving Settings)> (Set the available functions in the sleep mode). Then select the boxes (Stay connected to the Internet) and (Enable PS4 power on from the network).

At this point you will be able to play PS4 games directly on your computer. Much of the work done.

Now all you need to do is start the program "Remote PS4 playback"On your computer, turn on the Apple TV and start AirPlay remote playback by choosing the"AirPlay Monitor Duplication". This feature allows you to transmit everything that appears on the computer screen directly to the Apple TV.

Attention: as already mentioned, the AirPlay function is only natively available on Apple devices, and accessible via the icon located in the top Menu bar, usually next to the Wi-Fi symbol. If you have a Windows device you can try using some programs like "Air My Pc" that allow you to take advantage of this feature even on a Windows PC, but I haven't had a chance to test it.

If all went well, you'll finally get PS4 games streamed to the Apple TV.

NB: it is important to specify that this is an "alternative" solution and therefore the stability of the unsecured stream. It is important that the room in which the Apple TV is located is not very far from the one in which the PS4 is located, because the Controller will still have to keep the signal with the Sony console (as it will have to remain connected to the PS4). Moreover, the quality of the streaming depends a lot on the type of connection that is used: I with the connection Fibra I managed to play, but cannot miss the slowdowns or the declines in quality. It is obviously not recommended (if not impossible) to play online.

In short, it is a solution "adapted" but which does its duty. I mainly use it when I have friends at home and I want to play games like Fifa or other game parties on a bigger TV.
