iOS 9 was the wake-up call for Apple to use the extra screen on iPad and saw the introduction of two new features: split-screen multitasking and Slide Over. Split screen multitasking allows you to open two apps simultaneously, while Slide Over allows you to interact with another app without leaving the current app with a scrolling screen gesture. Both of these features work with a limited number of iPad models and iPhone users haven't even been invited to the party. So, if you wanted the feature on your iPhone, I'll show you how you can get multitasking Split Screen on your iPhone:
Note : this procedure requires having a Jailbroken iPhone, so if you haven't already done so, go to our guide on how to jailbreak iOS 10.2
Install Gorgone from Cydia
- Open Cydia on your iPhone and search " Gorgon "in the Search tab. Since this tweak is hosted on the BigBoss repository and is added by default in Cydia, it is not necessary to add any other custom source.
- Touch " Install ">" Confirmation ".
- To touch " Restart SpringBoard "to complete the installation process.
The device will reboot in seconds and Gorgone should be installed correctly at this point.
So, take a minute to configure the Gorgon settings. Go up " Settings "> "Gorgon" is active " Enable rotation ". This enables rotations in most apps and on the main screen.
The second option, " Enable screen lock rotation "only for iOS 9 and does not work on iOS 10 at the moment.
How to use Split Screen Multitasking on iPhone
Within any app, swipe left from the middle-right edge of the screen . This will bring up all the apps installed on your iPhone.
Touching any one of them makes it slide and gets the focus. It works exactly like the iPad Over Slide function. you can interact with another app, without leaving the current app . You can just go back and go to the previous app when you're done.
This is especially useful when you say you are in an app and you need to search the web in the blink of an eye. You can search the web using Safari (or any other Web browser for iPhone) without leaving the current app and quickly return to the app with a simple touch.
To access the split screen mode, rotate your iPhone to enter horizontal mode . Within any app, swipe left from the middle-right edge of the screen to access the scrolling mode. Choose the app you want to open from the list. Tapping on drag bar small now put the applications side by side and can use both simultaneously.
Scroll down from the white drag bar higher to show the list of installed apps.
For exit the split screen mode, just run the app using the selection bar in the middle of both apps.
I didn't find any bugs on my iPhone 6 Jailbroken while using Gorgone. The only thing that bothers me is that enable rotation on all installed apps . While this may be an advantage to some, it makes some apps simply … terrifying. Hopefully we will have an option to disable the rotation for some specific apps in future versions. In addition to this minor problem, Gorgon is fairly solid.
If you need to temporarily disable Gorgone, you can simply tap " Disable ", or if you no longer request it, try uninstalling it from Cydia.
