After the smartphone, the Finnish house presents a new product. With a new OS, Sailfish 2.0, all multitasking and flexibility
Barcelona First the smartphone was born and then the tablet. From Finland to Catalonia, the Jolla route to innovation moves along a beaten path, but it does so in a not entirely conventional way. The Jolla Tablet a tablet made thanks to crowdsourcing (the Indiegogo campaign has collected over 2.2 million dollars and still in progress).
Switching from phones to tablets does not just mean a change in size. Along with the wider diagonal comes a new operating system: Sailfish OS 2.0. the real strength: the fantastic, intuitive and fast interface, and the multitasking one of the best around the CTO and Co-Founder of Jolla tells us, Stefano Mosconi, while with simple movements it moves through the carousel of screens.
The design of a Nordic essentiality: light (384 grams) and thin (203x137x8.3mm). There is no key home n endless menus to scroll. No icon to find in the corner to go back, basically every larger gesture takes you to the previous page.
When we made it Jolla Phone we have received many positive and negative feedbacks. We have worked hard to encourage migration from other operating systems, continues Mosconi. Maintained the absolute compatibility with Android, immediate accessibility to the app screen thanks to a retractable curtain always accessible and great freedom of use. Without giving up the model alternative based on respect for privacy and the non-commercialization of user data.
Everything flows fluidly over the display from 7.85 and 2048 × 1536 pixel resolution. Double speakers and dual cameras (5MP rear, 2MP front) are integrated into a shell with an aluminum back on which the logo is engraved. Then speed is given to Sailfish 2 Intel Atom Quad Core 64-bit 1.8 GHz processor. Also capable of memory, with 2 gigabytes of RAM, internal 32 or 64 GB expandable with Micro SD card up to 128 GB. The package is completed by a series of sensors (accelerometer, light, gyroscope, compass) and widespread connectivity (bluetooth and Wi-Fi but not 3G or LTE).
Jolla Tablet will be available from the second quarter of 2015 to $ 249 and is preparing to conquer markets as well as new partners. From Intel and Qualcomm to SSH for the construction of Sailfish Secure (dedicated to security on mobile platforms) to other mobile device manufacturers. We don't have the structure or scalability of Apple or Samsung but we aim to spread our OS through the muscles of other companies, perhaps intolerant of the current scenario: we are open and looking for new collaborations, concludes Mosconi. Jolla in Finnish literally means small boat. A small boat that now moves with agility but that one day aspires to become a sailing ship.
